Most of the dropshippers and online sellers I coach are not in the United States. They're in Lagos, Manila, Karachi, Cairo, Nairobi — running a Shopify store or a TikTok product page that sells almost entirely to American buyers. And most of them run the whole thing off one personal mobile number. It works right up until it doesn't. A US shopper sees a +234 or +63 number on your contact page and quietly closes the tab. A supplier wants to text you a code and it never arrives. Your personal cell becomes the customer-service hotline at 3 AM. None of that is a strategy — it's just what happens when you skip the boring infrastructure.
A dedicated US number is the boring infrastructure. It's cheap, it takes ten minutes, and it fixes four separate problems at once. Let me walk through the four, then show you the honest trade-offs between the usual options.
1. You look like a business your buyer can reach. Trust in e-commerce is mostly a stack of small signals: a real return policy, a face on the About page, and a phone number that looks local. A +1 line on your contact page and your order confirmations does more for conversion than another badge graphic. It tells a buyer in Ohio you're set up to deal with them, not messaging from a phone six time zones away.
2. WhatsApp Business becomes your support desk. A huge share of post-purchase questions — "where's my order," "wrong size," "can I change the address" — are faster to handle on WhatsApp than email. Registering WhatsApp Business on a dedicated number keeps those chats out of your personal app and gives you a clean line you can hand to a VA later. WhatsApp verification is done by Meta: it sends a code to the number, and the number just has to receive it. A US number that receives SMS and calls handles that fine.
3. You can receive OTP codes for the accounts a store needs. Setting up a store means a parade of signups — supplier portals, tools, payment dashboards — and a lot of them fire off an SMS code to confirm a US number. To be clear about what this is and isn't: a US number lets you receive those codes. Whether a specific marketplace or payment service accepts your number is that platform's call, and following their rules is on you. I'm not selling you a way around anyone's policy — just a real line that can catch a text.
4. Your personal number stays private. Once your cell is on a public product page, it's on a public product page forever. Spam, scam calls, a customer ringing you during dinner. A dedicated work number is a wall between the business and your actual life. Delete it and buy another if it ever gets abused — try that with your personal SIM.
The advice you'll find first is always "just use Google Voice" or "grab a free TextNow number." Both are genuinely fine tools — if you're sitting in North America. From outside it falls apart. Google Voice isn't offered in most of Asia and Africa, and setup effectively assumes you already have a US number to link. TextNow blocks registration from outside the US and Canada; you often can't even create the account from a Lagos or Manila IP. Sellers burn evenings on VPN workarounds before accepting that these apps were never built for someone in their country.
That's the gap. Not "which app is cheapest" but "which app will even let me sign up and pay from where I actually live."
G100 (app.g100.us) is a US-registered app that lets you buy a US or Canada number from anywhere. You create an account, pick a number — pick an area code near your main customer base if you want the local feel — and activate it. No KYC, no passport upload, no utility bill. Ten minutes, live number.
Pricing is a flat $1.95/month, pay-as-you-go from a USD wallet through Stripe, no contract or annual lock-in. Outbound calls run $0.03/min if you need to actually ring a supplier. The full rate card is on the pricing page. It runs in the browser and on mobile, and it covers US, Canada and Puerto Rico numbers. If you later scale support past yourself, there's an optional WhatsApp Business Cloud API add-on at $10/month for a shared team inbox with templates — most solo sellers never need it.
| Feature | G100 | Google Voice | TextNow |
|---|---|---|---|
| Works from your country? | Yes — buy from anywhere | No — not offered in most of Asia/Africa | No — blocks signup outside US/CA |

| Receive OTP for signups? | Yes — receives SMS codes | N/A from most countries | N/A from most countries |
| Price | $1.95/mo flat, pay-as-you-go | Free (US only) | Free (US/CA only) |
Two things to know before you buy, because I'd rather you go in clear-eyed:
If you're running a store aimed at US buyers from outside the US, a dedicated +1 number is one of the cheapest upgrades you can make to how the business reads and how you're reached. It makes your storefront look reachable, gives you a clean WhatsApp support line, catches the OTP codes your signups need, and keeps your personal number off the public internet. At $1.95 a month with no contract, there's not much to overthink. Grab one at app.g100.us and check the pricing page for the full rate card.
I sell from outside the US. Can I still get a US number?
Yes. G100 is a US-registered app that lets you buy a US, Canada or Puerto Rico number from anywhere, in the browser or the mobile app. There's no KYC and no document upload. Google Voice and TextNow generally require you to be inside North America to set them up.
Will a G100 number work with WhatsApp Business?
Yes. WhatsApp sends its verification code to the number, and G100's US and Canada numbers receive SMS and voice calls, so WhatsApp Business registration works today. If you later want a shared team inbox with templates, there's an optional WhatsApp Business Cloud API add-on for $10/month.
Can it receive OTP codes for seller and payment signups?
It can receive OTP codes sent by SMS to the number. Whether a specific marketplace, supplier or payment service accepts your number is that service's decision, not something G100 controls or promises to bypass. Use it as a professional US line and to keep your personal number private.
How much does it cost, and can I send SMS?
G100 is a flat $1.95/month, pay-as-you-go from a USD wallet via Stripe, with calls at $0.03/min. Receiving SMS and OTP, voice calls and WhatsApp all work now. Outbound SMS sending isn't live yet — it's waiting on 10DLC carrier registration.
Flat $1.95/mo, no contract, no KYC. WhatsApp-ready, receives OTP, buy from anywhere.
