A Shopee seller in Johor Bahru asked me this last month, and I've heard it a dozen times since from freelancers in KL and Penang. They want a US number. Not to hide — to work. American clients trust a +1 number. A US number lets them register WhatsApp Business without handing out their private Maxis or Celcom line. And a growing pile of US sign-up pages simply won't accept a Malaysian mobile for the OTP.
So they do the obvious thing: hunt for a free US number app. And that's where the afternoon disappears. Let me spare you the wasted time and walk you through what actually works from Malaysia.
Nobody warns you about this until you've already downloaded three apps. The popular "free US number" services were built for people already living in North America. Sign up from a Malaysian connection and they just won't let you in.
To be fair, these are genuinely good apps if you actually live in the US or Canada — I won't pretend otherwise. The problem is purely geography. People then reach for VPN tricks, and even when a number appears, it often can't catch the OTP, or the account gets flagged and wiped weeks later. That's a bad foundation for a business your income depends on.
Paid apps like Hushed and Vyke do work from more countries, but they carry their own limits on which number types you can get and how you use them. If your one job is a US number that receives OTP and runs WhatsApp Business from Malaysia, there's a simpler path.
| G100 | Google Voice | TextNow | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Works from Malaysia? | Yes — buy from anywhere | No — not available | No — US/Canada sign-up only |
| Price | $1.95/month, no contract | Free (but not reachable here) | Free (but not reachable here) |
| WhatsApp-ready? | Yes — receives the verification code | N/A — no number to use | N/A — no number to use |
| Receive OTP? | Yes — SMS codes land in your inbox | N/A — no number to use | N/A — no number to use |
The plain truth: a "free" number you can't reach costs you more than a working one at under $2 a month. Free is only cheap if it exists.
Whether it's WhatsApp Business or a US website's sign-up page, the whole game comes down to one thing — a number that can receive the verification code. Meta, or the platform, sends an SMS (sometimes a voice call), and it has to land somewhere you can read it. A G100 US or Canada number does exactly that, from Malaysia, without any VPN games.
That's it. You've got WhatsApp Business on a proper US number, and your personal line stays yours. The same received-OTP inbox lets you verify plenty of other US sign-ups too.
One honest heads-up: right now G100 numbers receive SMS and OTP codes — which is all you need for WhatsApp verification and signing into US services. Sending your own outbound SMS from the number isn't switched on yet (it's coming after the US 10DLC registration clears). So for WhatsApp sign-up, receiving codes and calls, you're fully covered today. If plain outbound texting is critical for you, know that piece is still on the way.
Once verified, don't leave it blank. Add your business name, a category, your logo, opening hours, and a short greeting so a first-time chat gets an instant reply even while you sleep — handy when your US clients are awake and you're not, thanks to the time zone gap. A US number with a filled-out, professional profile is what turns a curious visitor into a paying client.
If you grow into a team answering the same number, or you want to broadcast to your customer list, G100 also offers the official WhatsApp Business Cloud API as a $10/month add-on. Start with the phone app; upgrade only when you genuinely need it.
Yes. G100 sells US, Canada and Puerto Rico numbers with no KYC and no documents, and you can buy from anywhere in the world — including Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru, Penang or anywhere in Malaysia. You sign up, pick a number, fund your wallet in USD and activate.
Yes, that's the main thing it does today. Your G100 number receives SMS one-time passwords and verification codes in your inbox at app.g100.us, so you can verify WhatsApp Business, sign into US platforms and confirm accounts that only accept a US number.
Google Voice is set up US-only and is not available in Malaysia, so you cannot get a number. TextNow is North America only and blocks sign-ups from a Malaysian connection. Both stop you before you ever get a working number, which is why people waste hours on VPN tricks that later break.
A flat $1.95 per month per number, no contract, paid from a pay-as-you-go wallet in USD through Stripe. Calls are $0.03 per minute. An optional WhatsApp Business Cloud API add-on is $10 per month if you later want a team inbox and broadcasts.
Not yet. Today G100 numbers receive SMS and OTP codes and make and receive calls — which covers WhatsApp verification and signing into US services. Outbound SMS sending is coming after US 10DLC verification clears. If sending your own texts is essential right now, know that piece is still on the way.
Stop fighting apps that were never built for your side of the map. Grab a number that works from Malaysia at app.g100.us, and see the full breakdown on the pricing page.
