hair splines or soft body dynamics.<\/p>\n<p>Only <em><strong>after<\/strong> <\/em>these CPU calculations are completed can the Graphics Card visually display the result to our Monitor(s).<\/p>\n<p>In other words, the <strong>GPU is rarely the bottleneck<\/strong> in a 2D or 3D focused Workstation \/ (PC) Computer or Laptop. It will also make the Laptop quite noisy when Rendering on the powerful in-built GPU.<\/p>\n<p>You might want to consider <a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/best-egpu-enclosures\/\">external GPUs<\/a> for Rendering on a Laptop. Or try to use <a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/best-computer-3d-modeling-rendering\/\">an extra Computer<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/how-to-build-your-own-render-farm\/\">Render node<\/a> that you can offload any Rendering-intensive tasks to.<\/p>\n<p>Some of you might wonder why there are no <strong>AMD GPU recommendations<\/strong> here. The reason is simple:<\/p>\n<p>Nvidia's GPUs have wider Application and <a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/render-engine-hardware-compatibility-cpu-gpu-hybrid\/\">Render-Engine Support<\/a>, and in many cases, perform better than AMD's GPUs.<\/p>\n<p>If you absolutely know you will only use Software that supports AMD GPUs, though (like ProRender), then by all means, get a Laptop with an AMD GPU.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Storage_Devices_HDD_SSD_for_the_Best_Laptop_for_Animation\"><\/span>Storage Devices, HDD\/ SSD for the Best Laptop for Animation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There has been quite an update in storage hardware over the past few years, and almost<strong> all laptops now come with Solid State Drives<\/strong> (SSDs).<\/p>\n<p>In the past, these storage devices used to be Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) that were extremely slow and bottle-necked many aspects of a running system.<\/p>\n<p>SSDs are much faster at reading and writing data, and you can now boot the operating system faster, start your programs more quickly, and load \/ save your scene updates <strong>in a fraction of the time it used to take<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>SSDs are also much more robust, they don\u2019t age as fast as HDDs, and they are almost completely shock resistant.<\/p>\n<p>Having an SSD in a laptop is an absolute must.<\/p>\n<p><strong>My Storage recommendation for Animation Laptops:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A 500GB (or larger) SATA SSD<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For those of you <strong>who want even greater speed<\/strong> in saving &amp; Some do have Macs in their Infrastructure, but those are advertising agencies that always outsourced any serious 3D or Animation work.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expandability:<\/strong> Laptops can usually be upgraded easier and cheaper<\/li>\n<li><strong>Repair cost:<\/strong> Laptops can usually be repaired cheaper<\/li>\n<li><strong>Connectors \/ Adapters:<\/strong> A Laptop has all of the usual Connectors already built in. MacBooks usually need additional expensive Adapters for anything external.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now, <em><strong>please do <a href=\"#comments\">comment down below<\/a><\/strong><\/em> if you have had a different experience. This is what I myself have experienced so far, but I would love to hear from you!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Using_the_Laptop\"><\/span>Using the Laptop<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Although Laptops are inferior to desktop PCs in performance metrics, first and foremost, they are chosen for their mobility and ease of use.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Input_Devices\"><\/span>Input Devices<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>An absolute must to be productive on a Laptop is a good input device<\/strong> such as a mouse or a tablet &amp; pen.<\/p>\n<p>I have never seen anyone on a Touch-pad come even close to the speed of someone using a mouse or tablet &amp; pen.<\/p>\n<p>I know that using additional Input devices can be quite impractical at times, especially if you are in confined spaces such as on the train or the airplane.<\/p>\n<p>Whenever possible, though, especially at home, at work, or at school where you have a fairly large desk, <strong>use an input device that will greatly speed up your work<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Some Laptops have Touchscreens, which can also be quite fast if you are used to it. If you rely on a more accurate color display, go the IPS route.<\/p>\n<p>Be sure to check our <a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/best-monitor-graphic-design-video-editing-3d\/\">Monitor Guide<\/a>, which explains the features and terminology you might encounter when looking for Laptop screens or Monitors.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mobility\"><\/span>Mobility<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Now, the reason you are looking for the Best Laptop for Animation and not a <a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/best-computer-for-animation\/\">Computer or Workstation<\/a> is probably for <em><strong>mobility<\/strong> <\/em>reasons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You want to be able to take it with you<\/strong>, maybe work while traveling.<\/p>\n<p>If you have a docking station at work and home,  you can take your laptop with you to wherever you are currently working.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe a Computer setup is just too big, and you would like to start with something leaner that doesn't require a dedicated area with cables cluttering a part of your room.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a Student, then having a Laptop might be required by many Schools, and you will take your Laptop from Class to Class and back home every day.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/best-computer-for-animation\/\">Computer or Workstation<\/a> will <em>perform<\/em> better for Animation in almost every aspect<\/strong> because it has more room for faster parts, a better power supply, and larger cooling solutions.<\/p>\n<p>But a PC certainly cannot compete with a Laptop in terms of <em><strong>Mobility<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>You want to be mobile, and you probably don't want to carry a huge 10KG Laptop with you that will give you back pain after a day's use.<\/p>\n<p>We are looking for the <strong>Best Laptop for Animation that is also somewhat lightweight<\/strong> yet still has a large enough screen. This doesn't mean you can only game on a &#8220;Gaming Laptop&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_do_Animation_on_a_Laptop\"><\/span>How to do Animation on a Laptop?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There are many ways to do animation. You can draw individual frames by hand, you can create 2D Keyframes digitally and let the software interpolate between them, or you can create Keyframes in a 3D Environment and build your animation intuitively in a 3D Viewport.<\/p>\n<p>All of these methods can be done on a Laptop. All you need is the right software, a Laptop that is sufficiently powerful and some creative imagination.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to <strong>create hand-drawn animation<\/strong>, you can do this<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>the old-fashioned way, by using a pencil and a bunch of papers, then scan all of them in once they are finished.
