Simply uninstalling the overclocking software you used for a GPU overclock <em>should<\/em> work, but if your GPU doesn\u2019t revert to stock settings no matter what you do, you may need to follow the \u201cReset GPU Driver\u201d section later in the article.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Revert_CPU_Overclocking_Software_Settings\"><\/span>Revert CPU Overclocking Software Settings<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>If you performed your CPU overclock in software, you\u2019ll typically want to use the same software to revert your CPU back to its original stock settings<\/strong>. Enabling XMP or the AMD equivalent for your board is usually just free performance, but sometimes doing so can negatively impact system stability and the option needs to be disabled.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Intel Turbo Boost \/ AMD Precision Boost<\/strong> \u2014 Turbo Boost, or Precision Boost on AMD, refers to a common CPU feature used to push CPUs from \u201cBase\u201d clock frequencies up into their \u201cBoost\u201d clock frequencies. The full extent of this push and which cores it applies to can vary depending on workload and cooling capacity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Enhanced Multi-Core Performance<\/strong> \u2014 Many BIOSes will have a setting for \u201cEnhanced Multi-Core Performance\u201d, which refers to forcing a full all-core Boost on your CPU. <strong>This can be risky<\/strong> to try on a high-end chip without a strong liquid cooler or bulky air cooler, so be careful!<\/li>\n<li><strong>Turbo Ratio<\/strong> \u2014 Allows you to adjust how Turbo Boost\/Precision Boost are applied to your CPU. May be named differently or target different performance profiles on your board.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tweak_Windows_CPU_Clock_Settings\"><\/span>Tweak Windows CPU clocks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>While these settings won\u2019t change whatever has been done elsewhere (ie, disable an overclock entirely), they can be helpful for reining in your CPU's frequencies and subsequently your system\u2019s power consumption and heat exhaust.<\/p>\n<p><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"404\" height=\"442\" class=\"wp-image-24501\" maximum CPU state to 70 percent, which should prevent it from ever reaching full utilization.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The performance gain of an overclock has effectively been nullified, though again, this technically won\u2019t undo an overclock on its own.<\/p>\n<p><strong>it's time to move on to the heavier-duty solutions below if nothing else has worked, yet...<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reset_GPU_Driver\"><\/span>Reset GPU Driver<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Dealing with a persistent GPU overclock you can\u2019t get rid of and nothing else you\u2019ve tried has worked, including removing the original GPU overclocking software?<\/p>\n<p><strong>It may be time to bring out the old <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guru3d.com\/files-details\/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Display Driver Uninstaller<\/strong><\/a>, a utility that allows you to completely remove all traces of a given display driver from your PC. Knowing the difference between <a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/check-if-cpu-or-gpu-is-overclocked\/\">manual overclocks<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/cpu-base-clocks-vs-boost-clocks\/\">automatic boosting<\/a> behavior is the first step in identifying what sort of overclocks you're working with.<\/p>\n<p>Uninstalling any overclocking \/ tuning software, such as MSI Afterburner, can easily revert any manual GPU overclocks, but won't touch automatic boosting behavior. The same goes for resetting your BIOS to default settings, which may disable your RAM's XMP settings and your CPU's manual overclock, but will leave any automatic boosting behavior of the processor in place.<\/p>\n<p>To reduce power draw, temperatures, and subsequently, noise, you can reduce clocks below even factory defaults. This can be done through the Windows power plan, for example.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"FAQ\"><\/span>FAQ<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_Overclocking_Bad\"><\/span>Is Overclocking Bad?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Not necessarily, though overclocking <em>does<\/em> void your warranty.<\/strong> Overclocking also puts higher strain on your system\u2019s power delivery and cooling, in general, since the overclocked hardware is running hotter in order to run faster.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Is_Required_For_Overclocking\"><\/span>What Is Required For Overclocking?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>For the ideal overclocking experience<\/strong>\u2014 one you<em> won\u2019t<\/em> want to disable\u2014 <strong>it is integral to have a PC build with <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/how-many-case-fans\/\"><strong>strong airflow<\/strong><\/a><strong> and a good enough <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/aio-vs-custom-loop-liquid-cooling\/\"><strong>CPU cooler<\/strong><\/a><strong> for your needs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A stable overclock is one that doesn\u2019t put your system at risk of crashing by overheating or being tuned in a manner that makes it more prone to errors and crashing.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Over_to_You\"><\/span>Over to You<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>And that\u2019s all, for now!<\/p>\n<p>I hope this article helped clear up how to disable overclocking for you.
