<strong>ways in which you can reset the BIOS, along with a few very specific details you ought to keep in mind before embarking on this process.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll focus on <strong>MSI motherboards in particular<\/strong>, but these tips and methods are universal in nature and are, therefore, still relevant even if you own a motherboard from a different manufacturer.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_To_Reset_Your_BIOS\"><\/span>How To Reset Your BIOS?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Using_the_Clear_CMOS_Button\"><\/span>Using the Clear CMOS Button<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Most high-end motherboards have a dedicated button that makes resetting your BIOS a breeze.<\/p>\n<p>This button is either located along the bottom edge of the motherboard, close to the CMOS battery, or around the rear I\/O ports (adjacent to the USB connections), as shown in BIOS settings to their factory values.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: Many MSI motherboards have <em>two <\/em>buttons on the rear I\/O: the BIOS flashback button <em>and <\/em>the Clear CMOS button. Make sure you do not accidentally press the BIOS flashback button.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"From_the_BIOS_Itself\"><\/span>From the BIOS Itself<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If your system successfully POSTs, you can simply enter the BIOS and revert all settings to their default values. To do so, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enter your BIOS by pressing either DEL or F2, depending on its manufacturer. If you don\u2019t have a lot of experience, make sure to check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/how-to-enter-bios\/\">following article<\/a> that explains how to enter the BIOS.<\/li>\n<li>The BIOS options should appear in either UEFI or Legacy modes. Rest easy because the process is the same for both.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to the <strong>Save &amp; Exit<\/strong> tab using the arrow keys or your mouse.<\/li>\n<li>Next, select the option &#8220;<strong>Restore (Factory) Defaults<\/strong>&#8221; and hit <strong>Yes <\/strong>when the dialog box pops up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If your motherboard does not possess the Clear CMOS button \u2013 or you cannot enter the BIOS for whatever reason \u2013 you'll have to open your system and perform a very simple (albeit somewhat intimidating) procedure.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Before you go any further, make sure your system is unplugged, and the PSU is switched to &#8220;off&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reseating_the_CMOS_battery\"><\/span>Reseating the CMOS battery<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>One of the easiest ways to reset your BIOS (despite it requiring a bit of \u201cmanual labor\u201d) is to simply reseat the CMOS battery. The BIOS will therefore be reset to default values after the battery is back in place and you turn your Computer on.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clearing_the_CMOS_using_a_Jumper\"><\/span>Clearing the CMOS using a Jumper<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_To_Short_a_3_Pin_Jumper\"><\/span>How To Short a 3 Pin Jumper<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The CMOS jumper on your motherboard is usually located towards the bottom, adjacent to the CMOS battery.<\/p>\n<p>It should look like a three-pin header with a label that reads JBAT1, JP1, CLEAR_CMOS, or CLR_CMOS.<\/p>\n<p>By default, the jumper should be on pins 1-2. Doing so will short the jumper pins and <a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/clear-cmos-motherboard\/\">clear your CMOS<\/a>, thus returning your BIOS to its default values.<\/p>\n<h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_To_Short_an_RTCRST_Jumper\"><\/span>How To Short an RTCRST Jumper<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>If you're rocking an older motherboard, it may possess a Real Time Clock Reset (RTCRST) jumper. This jumper can also be used to reset the BIOS.<\/p>\n<p>To do so, locate the password connector (PSWD) and RTCRST pins on your motherboard. Often, these will be located below all the <a href=\"https:\/\/g100.us\/small-pcie-x1-slots\/\">PCIe slots<\/a> or around the PSU power connectors.<\/p>\n<p>Next, remove the PSWD jumper and put it on the RTCRST pins for 5-10 seconds. Then, put the PSWD jumper back in its original place and press the power button.
