GPU MSRP List - AMD, Nvidia & Intel Graphics Cards

Graphics Cards Manufacturers set a Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) when launching new SKUs that can be part of existing or new generations of products.

And while we'd expect official GPU pricing to follow these MSRPs, looking at online shops or brick-and-mortar retailers shows how far prices can diverge from what AMD, Nvidia, or Intel suggest.

The reasons are numerous:

• AIBs (Add-in-board partners) have custom coolers, overclocks, and features that might warrant price divergence from MSRP or Founder's Edition GPUs
• Stock scarcity, supply, and demand can strongly influence prices
• GPU Manufacturers are US-based and suggest US-based prices. Other countries might add taxes, import taxes, added shipping costs etc.

Nonetheless, the MSRP is great for orientation, to figure out if you're looking at a reasonable deal or not; And to have an overview of how MSRPs were for older generation GPUs and how they've changed over the years.

What does MSRP mean in relation to GPUs?

MSRP means Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price, and it's a suggested price point that manufacturers recommend sellers set prices at for their products.

While the above works for GPUs as well, we additionally glean a positioning in their line-up and comparison to competitors from it.

Were AMD to set an MSRP to, say, 499$, for one of their GPUs, the competition (e.g. Nvidia) would have to match this MSRP if the competing cards would perform similarly.

Are GPU Prices the same as MSRP Prices?

They are not. Because MSRP is just a suggestion, things like supply and demand, added features of AIB Cards and the selling country's import and sales taxes can heavily impact actual prices.

Does a GPU's MSRP stay the same over time?

MSRP for GPUs can change over time. Especially when an SKU is meant to be repositioned in a generational line-up, or if new GPUs are being released, MSRP for older SKUs are often lowered, also to make it easier to clear inventory making room for the new generation.

Why are GPUs more expensive than their MSRP?

As discussed above, this is due to 3 main reasons:

• AIBs (Add-in-board partners) have custom coolers, overclocks, and features that might warrant price divergence from MSRP or Founder's Edition GPUs
• Stock scarcity, supply, and demand can strongly influence prices
• GPU Manufacturers are US-based and suggest US-based prices. Other countries might add taxes, import taxes, added shipping costs etc.

That last point is also the reason why GPUs are often more expensive outside of the US.

Where and when to buy GPUs at MSRP?

It's best to buy current-gen GPUs right before a new generation of GPUs is released. At such times, manufacturers generally lower the MSRP, and sellers want to quickly clear their inventory to make room for new generation GPUs. A great opportunity for a deal.
